Cyclone Nisarga will cross close to Mumbai

The well-marked low-pressure area over the south-east and adjoining east-central Arabian Sea and Lakshadweep area has concentrated into a depression on Monday morning.

It is located about 370 kilometres (km) southwest of Panjim; 690 km south-southwest of Mumbai and 920 km south-south-west of Surat. The depression likely to intensify into a deep depression over the next 12 hours and a severe cyclonic storm, called Nisarga, by Wednesday.

The cyclone track -- issued by India Meteorological Department (IMD) authorities -- show that Nisarga will cross very close to the Mumbai coast while entering the land. Maharashtra and Gujarat are on pre-cyclone alert as very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall is expected in parts of the states on Wednesday and Thursday.

మరో తుఫాన్ ముంచుకొస్తోంది. సూపర్‌ సైక్లోన్‌ అంపన్‌ కొద్ది రోజుల క్రితమే పశ్చిమ బెంగాల్‌, ఒడిశాలలో విధ్వంసం సృష్టించి వెళ్లిపోయింది. ఇప్పుడు అంతకంటే వేగంగా మరో అలజడి సృష్టించేందకు సిద్దమవుతోంది. అగ్నేయ అరేబియా సముద్రంలో ఆదివారం అల్పపీడనం ఏర్పడినట్టు వాతావరణ పరిశోధనా శాఖ(ఐఎండీ) అధికారులు తెలిపారు. కాగా ఇది సోమవారం నాటికి వాయుగుండంగా మారి, అనంతరం తుపానుగా మారే అవకాశం ఉందని అంచనా వేస్తున్నారు. నిసర్గ అని పిలుస్తున్న ఈ తుపాను జూన్‌ 3 సాయంత్రానికి దక్షణ గుజరాత్‌, ఉత్తర మహారాష్ట్ర తీరాలను తాకవచ్చని వాతావరణ పరిశోధనా శాఖ అధికారులు తెలిపారు.
